„A happy week” – this is what the organizers of Mediawave wished for all the guests of the festival. Thanks to them the series of proramme is not only Győr’s anymore. It belongs to the region, to Europe and to the world. Although many have tryed to define what is Mediawave exactly in the past two decades, it seems to be even more and more difficult to do so. It is obviously a strong brand – in five countries and more than 20 cities with the similar program and image- and a new genre which was formed by melting multi-coloured artistic forms all in one.

Today is the day of the picnic. With Mediawave the official festival season has begun. Moreover, on the riverside of Danube an entire mini-Woodstock was taking shape. The highlight of the day was Ten years after. First we had doubts about the band – it’s okay that they played at Woodstock, but that happened 40 years ago. We felt kind of strange watching the gathering public all dressed in siuts wearing ironed shirts. But nothing was worth more than to see all these people raving all through the concert… Ten years after performed almost entirely by the original alignement, a young guitarist, Joe Gooch was the only fresh member and he gave the band a gripping drive. We had the thought that all these problems with so called generation gap is bullshit.

Serious, strenuous films, deep thoughts, characteristic tastes from Eastern-Europe. Adult movies at a festival of age. But as György Báron commented at the closing gala – the best thing about Mediawave is that it could keep it’s youth and freshness even running all those serius prograrmmes. This is a place where all visitors can get rejuvenated.
